These words and photos were originally published in October 2008, just after the 2nd Annual FJ Summit.

The 2008 FJ Summit was one of the most amazing events Angie & I have ever had the pleasure of attending. We have a passion for adventure, FJ Cruisers and scenic off-roading, so we expected the Summit to be filled with great trail runs and beautiful vistas, and it did not disappoint.

This years Summit, however, was something more. It ended up being more about people than trails, more about the community than the trucks we gathered around.

We had the great pleasure of meeting so many people, I can barely keep track. We appreciate all the kind words regarding FJC Magazine. As I said to nearly everyone I met, this publication is a ‘healthy’ way for me to deal with my ‘problem’ of FJ addiction, and it’s cheaper than therapy!

We took well over 700 photos and did a total of 11 trail runs, including two night runs. Angie & I both got to do Black Bear Pass this year. Yes, stock FJ’s can make it down Black Bear with a competent driver, just ask Taft. With nearly 300 FJ’s and over 500 people in attendance, the Best Western (Summit HQ) was completely crazy every night. We were lucky to find a parking spot next door at the Box Canyon (our favorite hotel in Ouray) by the time we got back to town every night.

Our encounters with so many Summiteers were just the beginning. As you’ve probably already heard, and you’ll read about in this special issue, the selfless acts at this year’s Summit really defined it. From vendors to Trail Team professionals, to friends helping friends, there should be no doubt in anyone’s mind what amazing group of people the FJ Summit brings together.

2009 can’t get here soon enough. We’re actually thinking about arriving a few days early next year so we have more time to enjoy the area. We’re definitely going to put together a few night runs for ’09, as well as a few other surprises. Watch http://tctmag.us/fjsummit for updates when the dates are announced and registration opens.

NOTE: The 2022 FJ Summit is set for July 20-24, 2022 in Ouray, CO.
